THE BIG FISH 2011 TOURNAMENT ENTRANT
KAI HALEY (COLCHESTER)
KAI (The Colonel) HALEY - AGE 37 - UK P.B 30lb 2oz
"I started fishing at the age of six with the assistance of a neighbour; mostly match fishing- where I gained the majority of my knowledge. I fished in local club, and open, matches up to the age of twenty five, where I had reasonable levels of success. Following that I gave up competition fishing and just stuck to pleasure angling, travelling all around Essex and Suffolk trying out new waters and methods until the age of thirty.
After years of match fishing- always trying to catch large bags of fish- I decided to take up carp fishing... a completely new concept to what I was used to! I now purely fish for carp- totally smitten by the pursuit of 'the big fish'. By no means have I become an expert but I am a decent all round angler and learning more every time I hit the bank.
Whether it be tactics, bait or general watercraft knowledge I’ve caught numerous fish and am just as happy catching a 10lb carp as a 20lb. For many years my average fish was between 14 to 18lb but in the last 2 years I have been introducing new rigs and bait presentations with some good results: always trying to catch the biggun!
This season has been my best- catching over 80 fish from a couple of my club lakes I regularly visit. The majority of my fish caught this season have been up to 20lb with 2 PB's coming in at a 23lb mirror and a 22lb common... until 'The big fish 2010' (Suffolk water park). Although I didn’t catch in the competition I did stay on an extra night where I had a new PB coming in the form of a lovely 30lb 2oz mirror. What a cracking fish!!!
I class myself as THE UNDERDOG but am always snapping at the heels of better anglers and have recently secured bait sponsorship from Ian Moore at CCMOORE for 'The big fish 2011' and aim to try and carry on that collaboration where I can.
Being a Father and Grandfather I applaud the efforts of doctors, nurses and organisations that help not only the children but the families who need to be there for the kids- so give my full support for the Sick Children’s Trust and hope to raise as much money as I can for the charity."
